Rampant poaching of Sarus in UP Jun 18, 2009
According to a study by the Bombay Natural History Society, the concentrations of the birds are highest in Mainpuri and Etawah districts of the state. Around 30 percent species of cranes used to come to the Etawah bird sanctuary due to which in 2000, a Sarus crane protection centre was set up here. (India Times)
BNHS opens bird migration study centre at Point Calimere Feb 23, 2009
CHENNAI: In an effort to restore the habitat of Point Calimere sanctuary from degradation, the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) opened a bird migration study centre on Sunday. BNHS will work in association with the state forest department, the local industries, mainly salt, and the fishing community, through a multi-pronged strategy, for revival of the eco-system, a major shorebird habitat.
